History

In March 1998 Mattias met Andreas at a party in Torslanda. After a lot of beer and vinyl records we discovered that we could both sound the guitar and we liked the same type of noisy music. Since we both thought that we were alone in this small suburb to like this kind of distorted rock we took the opportunity to start that we believed to be a unique concept (like we said, a lot of beer...)

Reality hit us when the hangover passed and the band was forgotten, as many other projects started when drunk. The only difference was that we three days later ran into each other again. Also this time with a little too much alcohol in our bodies. And when you have started the same band twice when drunk you really have to form the band. So the summer was spent to find other people with the same taste in music to write songs.

New members were never found and we only wrote one song. But in September we found ourselves in the rehearsing room with the grunge drummer Pappa Kollo and the Beatles inspired bass player Bas-Kalle (both named Carl-Fredrik). With this constellation we managed to play two gigs before Bas-Kalle felt that the distorted guitars were destroying down his pop spirit. So after seven months he gave up. So we were back to look for a new bass player again.

We played a short while with the former bass player Ulf from Pappa Kollo's old band "No Milk Found" but he also quit after a week or so. We started to suspect that we were socially disturbed or something and that we couldn't socialize with other people. Then we found Jonas...

Jonas played guitar in the shattered band Screams and had nothing to do for the moment. So he strapped on the bass and managed to at the same time inject a real dose of energy into the band. This resulted in a bunch of new songs that showed that we were heading in the right direction.

Up until now we didn’t have a name. So when we were offered to play at Göteborgskalaset that was to be announced in the papers we agreed that it was quite important to come up with one. After one minute of discussing in panic we came up with "The Kakaphoniacs". This name was sent in writing to the people responsible for the gig and still they managed to print that "Kakaphonia" were playing. It could have been a typo; it could have been an intern... Or maybe just fate...

We agreed on the later explanation and simply changed name. If it now should show that it was an intern we just want to point out that the name now is registered at PRV and we own it. So you can continue with your internship.

We continued to write songs and rehearse. We had a couple of gigs with varied quality and we managed to record some of it on tape. As time progressed Jonas other band, Lonesome Era, started to take more and more of his time. Finally he decided that he only had time to play with one band. So in December 1999 he left Kakaphonia. We were back once again looking for a new bass player. Luckily for us enough we got hold of a new bass hero quite fast. Enter Fidde...

Fidde normally played drums in the ever-resting band Sääl together with Matte W. His career in Kakaphonia began with lots of hard practising at home since we had a gig coming up in 14 days. He performed great on the gig and his future in the band was hereby secured.

Since then we have had lots of gigs and wrote tons of new songs. Some of them we have recorded and some are still waiting to be recorded. But that is not really part of the history...
